Local Leaders Urge Continued State Dialogue on the Future of Lake Tahoe

The governors of Nevada and California played a key role in last year’s final drive by the TRPA Governing Board to complete and adopt the 2012 Regional Plan Update (RPU).  Governor Jerry Brown and Governor Brian Sandoval engaged the time and skills of their respective natural resources leaders to convene a “bi-state consultation group” to negotiate and compromise on the most challenging issues involved in shaping the final RPU.  California Resources Secretary John Laird and Nevada Director of Conservation and Natural Resources Leo Drozdoff personally facilitated the consultation process and publicly supported the adopted Plan.

Now, each state has legislation that seeks to steer a different course for Lake Tahoe and the RPU.  The bills are related, but different in their language, approach, and potential outcome.
